Close but no cigar!
This work deals with the attempt by the House of Representatives to impeach President Bill Clinton for his affair with the intern Monica Lewinsky in 1998. In view of the multiple affairs and treasonous actions of the current incumbant it seems such a tame event in hindsight. The hearing was based on the testimonies of Monica Lewinsky, Paula Jones and Gennifer Flowers who I chose to depict as the ‘Three Graces’. Clinton alledgedly had affairs with all three women. Watching from the wings are Independent Counsels Kenneth Starr and Linda Tripp who secretly recorded damning evidence and bought the allegations of sexual misconduct to light. Hilary Clinton stands by her man but holds a dagger behind her back to suggest she will make him suffer later for this humiliation. Clinton wears a tie with the infamous ‘bonking feet’ logo. Lewinsky is said to have secretly given him a tie as a lovers gift. Clinton also sports a cigar in his top pocket. It was alleged by Lewinsky that a cigar had been used during an act of foreplay. President Clinton was eventually found ‘Not Guilty’ with a majority vote of 55 to 45. True to form, those who voted ‘guilty’ were all Republican!
