God Save the Queen!
This painting was done in response to the highly controversial television interview given to Martin Bashir by Princess Diana in 1995 . In the program, Diana openly discussed the state of her marriage and suggested that there were three people in the relationship, the other being Charles’ mistress Camilla Parker Bowles. This was a major blow to Royal Protocal and shone a none too flattering light on the House of Windsor. Diana said she wished to be remembered as ‘The Peoples Princess’. I painted her as the lonely 'Queen of Hearts’ while Charles took to the throne and Camilla snuck in through the side entrance. This painting was made a year before the fateful car crash that claimed Diana’s life ensuring her legacy as ’The Peoples Princess’ while Camilla is now officially a member of the Royal Family.
